Edward del Rosario, New York, employs rich color and fine brushstrokes to meticulously paint imaginary characters in stage-like environments. His narrative paintings, oil on linen over panel, are serious in mood, yet tongue-in-cheek, and always enigmatic. In turn, they inspire dialogue between the viewer and the scene’s actors, whose subversive actions quietly surprise. Del Rosario received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI and his BFA from University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. He has had numerous solo and group shows throughout the U.S. and abroad and was awarded the silver medal at the Art Director’s Club 88th Annual Awards, 2009 and the illustration gold medal from the Society of Publication Designers, 2009. In 2007 he received the MacDowell Fellowship, and in 2005 the Special Editions Fellowship from the Lower East Side Printshop. His work can be seen in many private and public collections, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.
